Why I set up Countloyal

Melbourne-based founder with over a decade in enterprise loyalty · April 2026

I live in Melbourne, a city famous for its cafe culture and outstanding coffee. I spent years watching the independent cafes and shops I loved struggle with something the big chains solved long ago: building a deeper connection with their best customers through a digital loyalty programme.

Starbucks, McDonald's, Woolworths — they all have apps, data teams, and million-dollar loyalty programmes. The local cafe on the corner has a cardboard stamp card and a prayer that you remember to bring it next time. I know because I lost mine constantly.

Having spent over a decade building loyalty programmes for some of Australia's biggest retailers, I knew the playbook worked. I also knew it shouldn't cost a fortune to run one. So I built Countloyal to close that gap. Here are the three things it gives every small business owner:

1. A real digital connection with your customers

Paper cards are anonymous. You have no idea who your regulars are, how often they visit, or when they stop coming. A digital stamp card that lives in Apple or Google Wallet changes that overnight. Every scan is a data point. Every member is someone you can actually reach.

2. Reward your best customers to drive more visits

Your regulars are your business. A simple stamp-and-reward loop gives them a reason to choose you over the place next door, every single time. It turns casual visitors into habits and habits into loyalty.

3. The same digital marketing tools the big players take for granted

This is the part that excites me most. Once you have that digital connection, you unlock everything the big brands already do: birthday rewards that make customers feel remembered, win-back offers to bring lapsed visitors through the door, surprise-and-delight messages that turn a regular Tuesday into something special, a referral programme where your happiest customers bring their friends, and broadcast messages to fill quiet afternoons. None of that is possible with a paper card. All of it is possible with Countloyal, even on the free plan.

I built this for the cafes, bakeries, salons, and neighbourhood shops that make our communities worth living in. If that sounds like your business, I'd love you to give it a go.
